Pension System Update
January 2017
                       Pension System Update

Thursday, Jan. 17th, I attended the delayed monthly meeting of HPOPS.  Here are some of the highlights.
PENSION VALUE: (as of 1/18/17)  $4.3 Billion
RETIREMENTS: (year)  188 by March.  Expected by year end: 275
HPOPS still working with the city's negotiators on final language to be placed in the legislation.  One main item in the talks is that the city must sell the necessary obligation bonds to pay the system the required $750 million back payment on  the ARC's they owe the system.  If that does not occur, the there is NO compromise.
Wm "Bill" Elkin, HPROA Executive Director

Be Sure to Mark Your Calendars
Hello friends and all HPD retirees,
Hope everyone has their calendars marked for February 25, 2017.  This is the date for our  annual Houston Reunion to be held at the Houston Police Academy located at 17000 Aldine Westfield Road.  The Reunion will be from 10AM - 2PM, with lunch served about 11 am.  The cost is $10 per person which includes a wonderful lunch.
We are hoping to have a great turnout, to see retirees we have not seen since last year.  In 2016 we had  170 attendees and our goal  this year is to surpass that number.  So folks, come on out and help us reach our goal!
We still need like new items for our Silent Auction. [More]
