BOARD MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 10, 2017
Call to Order: President Steve Rayne called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m.
Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Bill Elkin

Absent: Blair, Miller, Gaines, Zoch
Sergeant at Arms: Robert Crane
Parliamentarian: Ed Aldridge
Determination of Quorum: A quorum was present.
Treasurer’s Report and Minutes of Previous Meeting:
Motion by Walschburger, 2nd by Kivela to approve July Board Minutes and the Treasurer’s Report as printed. Approval of July Business Meeting Minutes tabled until corrections are made. Voice Vote. Motion Carried.
President – Steve Rayne:
Election Chairman E. J. Smith and his committee are counting the returned election ballots. Results of the election will be announced at the business meeting and those elected will be sworn in.
Complementary luncheon catered by Hickory Hollow. Secure Legacy and Georgetown Mortgage donated $500 each to the cost of the meal.
Wants to acknowledge A.L. Blair for his years of service on the Board of Directors.
HPROA has been asked to participate in the 911 Heroes Run on September 9, 2017 at City Hall. The Heroes Run benefits Houston Police Assist the Officer and Houston Professional Firefighters.
Motion by Potell, 2nd by Walschburger to have the HPROA participate in the September 9, 2017 Heroes Run Benefit for Houston Police Assist the Officer and Houston Professional Firefighters. Voice Vote. Motion Carried.
St. John asked if HPROA would be interested in doing the Channel 8 fundraiser again. Discussion.
Beale gave an update on the HPROA Group Long Term Care Insurance price structure, which is being changed by TransAmerica. Currently working on a life insurance contract that may benefit some of our members.

There have been 10 retirements since July 1st.
The annual HPOPS Seminar will be October 7, 2017 at the Humble Civic Center, 8233 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble. Sign up for the HPOPS Seminar now!
The Special 30 Day Session of the Texas Legislature will end August 16th. The Dues Check Off bill is in committee. The ‘bathroom bill’ is in committee.
Houston’s November 7, 2017 ballot will include Library Bonds. The Firemen’s Parity Bill will probably not be on the ballot due to counting petition signatures.
HPROA focus should be pushing for the approval of the Pension Obligation Bonds.
HPROA should be neutral concerning the firemen’s pension situation; let this stay between the firemen and the City.
Attended TMPA Convention. 561 HPROA members have the firearms insurance.
