Call to Order: President Steve Rayne called meeting to order at 9:50 a.m.

Minutes of Previous Meeting:
Motion to approve the minutes as printed. July Business Meeting Minutes will be amended. Voice Vote. Motion Carried.
Georgetown Mortgage – David Smith
Texas based company.
Have programs to assist first responders.
Direct lenders. Offer many types of loans including reverse mortgages.
The government closely regulates reverse Mortgages. People use reverse mortgages for many good reasons just be sure to use a reputable company.

Houston Police Credit Union – Amber Roberts
The Credit Union dropped the word Federal from the name although they are Federally insured. The name is now Houston Police Credit Union.

Acknowledged and welcomed first time attendees.
New retired I.D. is being issued. Retired is now in small print on the back of the I.D.
Captain Fremin, HPD Academy, asked HPROA to participate in the September 9, 2017 Hero Run. HPROA will have a booth and display our Wall of Honor of fallen Police Officers at the event. Invited everyone to attend.
Thanked A.L. Blair served 14 years as a HPROA Board Member. He was unable to run for reelection due to health issues.
Beale and Garland Cole are in the foyer with information on the HPROA Long Term Care Insurance Policy underwritten by Trans America.
Executive Director – Bill Elkin:
HPOPS at $4.47 B. Ten have retired as of July 1st.
The Pension Obligation Bonds will be on Houston’s November 7th ballot. Need to get those bonds approved by the citizens.
Firefighters Parity Petition signatures are being counted by the City Secretary. It will probably not be on the ballot in November. HPROA needs to remain neutral toward the parity issue.
Special Session of the Legislature ends August 16th.
The Labor Dues Deduction bill is in committee.
HB 346, a shell bill for government transparency, is also dead.
Bathroom bill is in committee and will probably die there
Treasurer Report – Ed Aldridge:
HPROA has a total of $ 228,689 in the bank.
Retired Badge –
The paper has been mailed.
Always looking for new articles and anyone may submit an article.
Membership Committee – Roy McDonald
1,768 members as of August 8th.
Eight (8) new members were approved today
Please contact dropped members that are on the report.
Members may renew memberships with a credit card or make changes at any meeting.
Website Committee – Jim Ashby
12,066 visits last month.
If you are not getting the Sunday E-Blast contact Jim.
Be aware of malware and virus update scanner. Don’t respond to telephone numbers warnings that appear on your screen. Have a back up for things on your computer.
Retired Badge is on the website about two week earlier than mailed papers.

Super Bowl Pot will open at the September HPROA Meetings.

The Hill Country Reunion in Fredericksburg will be Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Lady Bird RV Park in the Pioneer Pavilion. Make your hotel and RV reservations early. Remember to bring your silent auction items to the September meeting or to Fredericksburg.
