PENSION UPDATE AND COMING ELECTIONS

By Bill Elkin

As your Executive Director I take editorial license  on the issues regarding our pension system.
With the recent city wide bond election, which resulted  in the passage of the Pension Obligation Bonds
by a wide margin, I think that we all can feel relief from the possibility that the City of Houston would
become bankrupt and not fulfill it’s obligation to maintain the three Defined  Benefit pension systems.

The law that was passed and signed by Governor Greg Abbott, was the fruition of the work by those
involved from the 3 systems, mainly police and municipal employees.  The fire negotiators elected to
abandon the talks for their various reasons. [More]

Hello Retirees,

Well, we just had our Fredericksburg Reunion on Saturday October 28, 2017,  I think I can say, we all had a great time.

We had a total of 200 attendees.  Thank you Lamar and Dee Kimble for hosting the Reunion and making sure there was plenty of coffee in the morning, since it was a little chilly. Once again the lunch was provided by Boondocks Seafood, and it was excellent as usual.

Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers on Friday and Saturday that came out and helped Rosalie and I with the Silent Auction. Thank you to everyone that donated items for the auction  -  a Grand Total of $1796 was collected!!!!  All proceeds go towards the HPROA.

THANK YOU DEARLY TO ALL THE WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS!!!!!!!!

Next Fredericksburg Reunion dates will be posted as soon as they are available.

May you and all your family have a safe and Blessed Thanksgiving.
