RETIRED OFFICERS ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE

NOVEMBER 13, 2008

ROXANNE COOPER: 10-10-08 - (Randy Sillivan to Nelson) Member Leonard Cooper reports that his wife, Roxanne is fighting stage 4 lung cancer which has metastasized to other organs. Leonard states he has family support around him and that they can't take any calls at this time.  Please pray for Roxanne and Leonard that God  would give Roxanne relief from any pain and sickness and let her feel His healing hand upon her.

J.D. SPANN:  Called and talked to J.D. on the 14th and learned that he is doing very well, still not able to get on that Harley yet but getting along good.  Had a lot of Tree damage on his place but slowly getting it all cleared off.  Said to say Hello to all.

GENE THALER:   Called and talked to Gene's wife today the 15th and they are so happy that he is home now and seems to be improving weekly.  Gene was taking a nap at the time but his wife says that he is using a walker some now  and they are grateful after 7 months in the hospital and for all the prayers and thoughts that were made for them.  Keep up the prayers for the Thaler Family.

JOE B.DAVIS:  Called and talked to Joe Bill this date and he answered and sounded really great.  Still can't eat solid foods yet but is on a steady diet of ENSURE.  He could not make the meeting last week but they plan to drive up to the Reunion in Fredericksburg.

JOHNNY THORNTON:   Called and talked to Johnny today and they are living just out of Boerne in the Community of Spring Branch and loving the hill country.  Johnny says he is feeling great and due for his first MRI in about a week.  He is thru with treatments for now and feeling great.  He and Deanna have done some short trips and plan on many more.

BRENDA DONAVAN:  Called and talked to Brenda this evening and learned that she is still taking Chemo since learning her cancer is back.  She feels pretty good considering and loves hearing and reading about some of the old timers, especially from the Homicide Div.  Keep your prayers going for Brenda as she continues her fight with Cancer.. Doug Bostock - 10-15-08

ELAINE FOLTZ - 10-22-08 (e-mail as received from Larry Foltz - Forrest)

We had our appt. with the neurologist on 10-20-08.  It has been decided that Elaine will not have surgery on her head at this time.  The Drs. at M.D. Anderson have instead chosen to use a radiation process named "STEREOTACTIC RADIO SURGERY" on Elaine's brain cancer.  She will be fitted with a metal "halo" on Thursday, 10-23-08, and on Friday, 10-24-08 she will undergo the radiation surgery process.  It will be an all day long event but once she is through the brain cancer SHOULD be destroyed with little to no harm done to her brain.  They are very optimistic about the outcome of this process based on the small size of the cancer and the location of the cancer.

Elaine will start 15 days of radiation to her chest and neck area on 10-23-08 also.  Once the radiation is concluded in 15 days Elaine will proceed into a Chemotheropy regime for the remainder of her treatment.  All the Drs. are very upbeat and extremely optimistic about Elaine's besting this recurrant cancer.  Please keep Elaine in your prayers and know she is fighting the good fight.  We were glad to see such a large crowd at Fredericksburg again this year.

 Larry and Elaine Foltz

THURSTEN CLARK:  Doug Bostock reports that Thursten, surviving spouse of Chief R.J. Clark, sustained some damage to her home in Spring Branch and has moved to a facility on Teague Road for a period of time,  Her phone number is still the same as noted in our directory, 713-686-7233 and she would like to hear from her friends so grab the phone and give her jingle and make her day.  If you skated through Ike without damage then give a lift to those who took a hit.  You will feel better for giving her a call. Nelson Foehner, FAC

FAMILY ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE SAYS THANKS

We on the Family Assistance wish thank Dee and Lamar Kimble for hosting the HPROA "Hill Country Reunion" in Fredericksburg, TX on Oct. 18, 2008 and was a great success this year.

There are many people involved in making the "Hill Country Reunion" and  "silent auction" a great success. We wish to thank all those that donated articles for the auction and the ones that bid on these articles. Thank to Myrna Miller, Paulette Van Volkun for working the "silent auction" where $800.00 (plus) was raised from the sale of articles there. We also wish to thank Entertainment Chairman D.A. Miller for all his efforts putting these functions together and the donation of the money made at the "silent auction" to the Family Assistance Committee.

We on the Family Assistance Committee assure all that made the "Hill Country Reunion" a great success, that the money made from the "silent auction" will be used for the benefit of our sick and shut-in members.
