I am happy to report that the Surviving Spouse Luncheon on 2-22-06 was a success.  To begin with it started out quite foggy which contributed to the no show of a number of people that had signed up to come.  Origionally we had about 175 people sign up to come.  According to Cathy the final count that showed up was l31.

The event started with the presentation of the colors by the Houston Police Honor Guard and then the National Anthem was sung by Sgt. Cynthia Miller of the Honor Guard.  What an honor to stand and listen to her sing and hear all the others softly singing along with her.  The members of the Honor Guard were our guests for all they have done for our Assoc.

Our President followed with a short opening welcome to the group and he was followed by Bostock who introduced the Honor Guard members and gave a short History of their organization.

Following that, our Executive Director, Bill Elkins then presented a short talk updating progress of his and the Legislative Committee.  This was probably the shortest talk we ever heard from Bill.

Lunch was then served and it seemed as though everyone enjoyed the food.

Ike Eickenhorst then introduced the Speaker for the Day, Morris Eickenhorst, who for the next 30-45 minutes entertained the entire group with some of the best comedy I personally have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

There were some special little gifts for all and at the end of the program we received many compliments on the program and meal that was put forth for our most deserving surviving spouses and their guests.

None of this would have been possible with out the extrodinary help from our Secretary, Cathy Buckles and our Assoc. Sec. Stefanie Leonard and of course the support from the committee and their spouses,Jo Ann, Mae, & Neal.

We hope everyone got home safely and that we will get to see all of you again next year.

Our Special Thanks to Walden Yacht Club and Jodi Christi for all their help again this year.

Respectfully:

Doug & Mae Bostock
